Joseph H. Pilates was a German gymnast, bodybuilder, boxer and and self-defence trainer who suffered from certain medical conditions during the World War I. He believed that certain lifestyle, bad posture and inefficient breathing are the roots for poor health. He then designed refined matwork exercises and began introducing his engineered equipment to compliment his teaching method. He also studied yoga and movement of animals.
2) Why Pilates?
The method can be practised for anyone of all ages. The core focus, overall body movement and joints mobility exercises will help in the prevention of injuries during daily activities.
3) How Pilates?
Techniques of breathing is different than yoga. More functional anatomy is exposed in the exercises and movements. Private clients will receive additional benefits of the focus and posture analysis. Focus of movement is different. Controlled cordination at same time strengthening muscles to complete the exercises. Easy with suitable modifications to body type.
4) Where Pilates?
In Singapore, any boutique studios will have the reformer, chair, cadillac and barrel on top of the mats. Anyone who is certified is able to do matwork anywhere at your own convenience.
For me, i believe in bringing a twist to the modern contemporary pilates. Introducing props and other core workout brands like TRX and styles to incorporate with the pilates dynamics. Including using gym weights to help in progression or just basically you will get to experience pilates movement in different ways and this will help you improve with your daily activities for the modern lifestyle.
Introduction to TRX Pilates- Pilates itself focus on the powerhouse and combining TRX suspension training will add versatility to the exercises. It can increase or decrease in the difficulty depending on the goals. For those who are still pondering whether to try a classic pilates style but still want something different, interesting and challenging, this is for you!
Pilates is not for everyone. Some might prefer a flexible stretch, some might go for high intensity workouts. I believe that to have a few types of exercises in your workout routine is a healthy choice. For example, combining a flexibility stretch from yoga poses with pilates core focus and breathing or using gym equipment and Hiit workouts with pilates body awareness would be really awesome! For me, I just hope to make a positive change in people's lives, to make them feel better and see the difference altogether. With the knowledge i gained through pilates, it can be incorporated with other workout methods as well and i intend to share with others and help those who would be interested to try something which will benefit them too.
